First flush
diverter – captures the first few litres of rainwater after a
dry period and diverts it away from your tank. The amount of water
diverted is calculated by multiplying the roof area you are harvesting
from (in square metres) by 0.5 of a litre.
Leaf straining rain head – diverts leaves and other matter from prevent them from entering the
rainwater supply.
Sludge zone – the
layer at the bottom of the tank where any organic material which
enters the system will accumulate. The point at which your water
is drawn should be above this point.
Auto switch – a device to maintain
a seamless water supply to your building by switching from rainwater
to mains water when the water level in the tank drops below a
given point
Auto top up valve – tops up the water level in the tank just enough to maintain
supply when during dry periods. This is an alternative to the
auto switch.
Dual check valve – a low hazard backflow prevention device that will stop rainwater
from entering the mains water supply.
