Tips for Leaks in Water Filter Housings

Leaks in Housings 10″ x 2.5″, 10″ x 4.5″,  20″ x 2.5″ and 20″ x 4.5″

Tips for Leaks
**  Water leak at edge of lid – can be caused by a couple of things : –

1. Lid not tightened sufficiently. Hand tighten only. If possible lay housings flat on ground or flat surface and rotate housings to tighten  ( do not use housing spanner to tighten as you’ll flatten the internal ‘O’ ring in the housing.)

2. Internal ‘O’ ring needs silicon gel refresh. Generally when filters are changed you should also remove the O ring and coat it with Silicon Gel ( available in 2 tube sizes from us). Gel stops it drying out.

3. Flattened O ring. If lid is tightened too hard there is the chance you’ve flat-spotted the O ring (usually round in shape, if flattened, you’ll find both top & bottom of the O ring is flat. O ring should be replaced.

** Leak where adaptors (straight or elbow) are, on either side of housing.
Can be caused by not enough plumbing tape on adaptor when installed. Roughly 8-10 rotations of tape around the end of the adaptor.
Can also be a hairline fracture in housing port due to adaptor being tightened too much. Replace housing.

*** Leak where tubing enters housing connector (also Pressure Limiting Valve or Slim Line filters).
Usually caused by tubing not pushed in far enough, Push tubing in till it will go no further.
Otherwise remove tubing ( with water supply to filter unit isolated and unit tap turned on to relieve any pressure in housing). To remove tubing from John Guest/Easy Connect fitting see link . Basically push collar down and at same time pull tube out
